British singer Andrea Clarke is no newcomer to soulful music. From the age of three she developed a love of performing - citing early musical influences including Earth Wind and Fire, Creative Source and James Brown - experimenting with her own sounds created with musical instrument ‘toys’.
When you’re given your first vinyl record (“I Want You Back” by the Jackson 5) at the age of five, you know you’re off to a good start…And for Darren Benjamin aka Daz-I-Kue, it was an early and valuable introduction to soul music. Aged just 14, Londoner Daz formed the Funchbunch Sound System with an old school friend, and small scale gigs led to bigger things with the Soundsystem rockin’ the Notting Hill Carnival in 1989 – a gig which still runs each year.

Detroit resident John Arnold is currently working on a full-length album for Ubiquity, channeling his eclectic musical influences in a forward thinking electronic style and collaborating with peers from the motor city. Multi-talented Mr. Arnold is equally happy playing guitar with his acoustic jazz combo Blackman & Arnold or, as a club DJ, spinning jazz, broken, techno and house, or in the studio making beats. His interest in music started early on.
Joy Jones is a revelation in a world of stagnant sounds. After honing her craft as an honorary member of the legendary Bugz in the Attic crew, Jones’ has finally released her debut album Godchild, a simply exquisite piece of work that fuses soul with nu-jazz, broken beats, and world rhythms into a unpredictable gem that will no doubt stand out as one of the best releases of 2009.
